Central Bar - concern over opening hours

In the same way that his 7.00am opening would have ultimately been determined by demand so will is his 1.00am. They have a big challenge on their hands to make this site work but it can be done.

Two sites that had been quite troubled over recent years are now occupied by the Espy and the Skylark respectively. Both show what can be done if you get your offer correct and they are positive additions to the Porty scene. Here's hoping the Central can make a revival - it's been there in one form or another for as long as I remember.

the worst time is not likely to be at 7am or 8am or even 9am. It is the total numpty standing out side having a fag who when you pass with the kid feels obliged to have a wee chat with them, this is probably more likely in the afternoon after school. Explaining drunk to a 5, 6, 7 year old is never easy.
However, it has to be said that this is the case for most pubs that don''t have a beer garden for smokers to go out to off the street.
What is it that folk are worried about if the pub is opened at 7am. Most pubs that open at that time are generally populated by sad wee old men and I would much rather have that than some other genre of bar- the dreaded kareoke- doesnt look right (sp!)
Having said that if it is open until 1am maybe...........I will even be tempted from time to time.

another thought...if loads of folk start to use the pub and the landlord sees that there is money to be made by appealing to folk prepared to spend cash in his business... then maybe the 7am opening will not be seen as a priority for him since others will be spending cash. Support it and it may improve.

Anyone know what it's to be called yet? Have to say the colour scheme is a bit yucky if that's the finished product.

I have seen the painters out every day doing a thoroughly professional job and really taking care on all their preperations. I was looking forward to seeing it finished but I think the colour they have chosen is crap but I guess we have to wait and see it when it is finished.

Sorry to learn that the application for a premised licence has been refused.

I sent in an email of support for the application, sadly this was treated as an objection which is a bit of a shame.
