Portobello Webcams??

Now that some members have ADSL or cable high speed internet, how about setting up a webcam page so people can show the more scenic views of Portobello, it would only take up a minute bit of bandwidth and could even be used as a giant neighbourhood watch scheme... The WWW (world wide watch!!)

Now over 8 years on since this string began.... and I'm guessing that there is no such thing as dial up anymore :shock: ...Does anyone think a Council run Porty webcam could be a possibility?

Hi Catz, nice to hear your purr again. Welcome back.

I'm sure that it would be technically possible to have a Porty webcam, but if you've been following things over the last couple of years, would you really want one? Just imagine all of those pro and con supporters playing to the cameras.

Why look to the Council to provide the webcam & run the service? When so many vital council services are being scaled back, isnt it rather greedy to look to them to run an 'added on extra', perhaps a local community group could take the lead on organising & running it? Possibly the Community Council?

Where would we like webcams to show? The prom? The High Street maybe?

Sorry About the slow reply BeachBum, but could a small webcam investment not in return pull in tourism, as online viewers could see Portobello for what it has to offer and perhaps want to visit. And yes the High street and particularly the Prom would both be viable locations for cameras

This would be a fantastic idea nowadays. If only to alert people and film evidence of the balaclava arseholes making problems around town.
