What you listening to at the moment?
I've always been a fan of The Caretaker and, in the main, the other less serious works by James Kirby, aka v/vm
"Deleted Scenes / Forgotten Dreams" is his latest double lp of ambience.

Patti Smith - Horses. I moved up to Edinburgh in October 76, sharing digs in Pilrig Street, where I spent my grant on alcohol and punk records. Patti was a wild, free spirit and this was art with attitude.
White Light/White Heat - Velvet Underground. It's 1981-ish. Ali (no relation) has a New Town flat, an expensive hi-fi and excellent connections. I'm having a panic attack in his bathroom and have to be comforted by one of his flatmates, an attractive young biker whose meat-head boyfriend is going to kill Ali when he finds out about the affair.
Aztec Camera - High Land, Hard Rain. Released in 1983. This was the soundtrack to a happy film I made on an idyllic summer's day, messing around with friends on the Water of Leith. A few weeks later someone accidentally taped Ravi Shankar over it and it was gone forever.

Most Sunday afternoons I hang out in the kitchen doing my kitcheny type things, listening to Stephen Merchant's show on BBC6 music.
I think he's a very funny guy and he has a couple of his old mates with him to add to the hilarity. They play some good music and there's lots of nonsense.

After that show finishes, along comes Stuart Maconie with his Freak Zone show. He plays a fabulous mix of stuff including lots of Prog.
He played the whole of Camel's Snowgoose a few weeks ago. Personally, I think this is a good thing but I might be in a very tiny minority.
Tonight's featured band are The Fall.

Anyway, that's what I'll be listening to, off and on, for the afternoon.

I was listening to this tonight. A bit lo-fi for an expensive hi-fi, mind. Not that I have one.Bob Jefferson wrote:White Light/White Heat - Velvet Underground. It's 1981-ish. Ali (no relation) has a New Town flat, an expensive hi-fi and excellent connections..
My brother cornered John Peel at a Meadowbank Thistle game in the early 80s, and asked him to play “I Heard Her Call My Name” on his show. Which he did four days later, remarking: “No-one's ever requested this before.”
Try “Surf” by Roddy Frame (if you haven't already). The first two tracks in particular, but it's all good.Bob Jefferson wrote:Aztec Camera - High Land, Hard Rain.

You can find anything and everything on YouTube, can't you?ecm wrote:I never even knew it existed. I shall have to listen out for it.Porty wrote:No 9 Dream-REM
I love this version.
I had a listen to the REM track and some of the other Lennon covers from the same album. I particularly enjoyed Christina Aguillera's rousing rendition of "Mother". The tears were rolling down my cheeks by the end of it.
I'm sure if John hadn't been gunned down in the street so many years ago he would have given them all a gold star.
