Edinburgh Marathon

Post by Ed » 27 Mar 2007, 14:54

My brother-in-law (Chris) and I are attempting this years Edinburgh Marathon (26.2 miles). We are running in aid of Meningitis Research, reason being, 10 years ago, Chris almost died of Meningitis and without the good doctors and nurses he might not be around now.

We have set an ambitious target of raising £5000 and we are already off and running!

We were hoping that you might be able to spare a few bob and push some of your hard earned cash our way? You could do it online at http://justgiving.com/wmwmarathon or if you want to do it old school, I can put you down on my paper sponsor form? Either is good!

You can also track our progress at our dedicated training and fund raising website - http://wmwmarathon.com/.

THANK YOU!

Boy that was hard, managed it in 1:52:24. We started right at the back and I mean last place so the whole time was spent overtaking

The first mile was slow cause of the sheer bulk of people, it opened out after the first 2 miles. At mile 3, me and my Brother In Law split up as he was feeling the pace in his knee. I pushed on. We went all the way out to Cramond via Granton and back. Right through some nice new bits of Edinburgh and the "backside" of Edinburgh

I stopped at the top of the hill at Mile 9 to have a blooming rest and a proper drink and again a wee walk at Mile 11 for a proper drink but apart from that was fine.

I misjudged my sprint finish as when I came round the back of Ocean Terminal I thought the line would be there, no it was another 500 yards away

Well done Ed.

I've done that a number of times in races (usually at places I've never run before). It's a sickener, isn't it?
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.

Well, thanks to POL / talkPorty, I have just had the Evening News on the telephone wanting an interview with myself and my brother in law about our fundraising etc. Great news!

Thanks, and remember, they are watching

Are you sure they aren't more interested in your proposed goings-on in Benidorm?

On a more serious note, good luck Ed. Hope you manage to meet your target for a very worthy cause.

It is. I've not done many runs but there are two I distinctly recall as painful; a couple of years ago running the leg of the Edinburgh Marathon for POL, I seriously misjudged how far it is coming off Seafiled Road past the C and D home to the foot of Kings Road. And in a Gullane 10K many years ago some wise guy told me there was 500m to go and it was 2k   Not amused.

That is good - hopefully you'll raise even more for such a worthwhile cause!

I'm running in the team relay for this years marathon... And your training schedule scares me! I was originally down for the 5.5mile leg, but now on the 8 mile leg... My current training is 10mile cycle + 30min swim each day... Given it's a marathon I think I should try and get some running into that!

We're entering two teams at work, so should get some friendly rivalry on the day :) http://www.justgiving.com/cslfirefly/

Thanks for that. Its never my intention to beat my amazing Mum, she managed 4 Marathons, just the one for me, thats more than enough!

On a similar vein, we had our photo shoot today down on the beach, the News got back in touch and we hope to be in sometime next week :D

Ed, I've been keeping an eye on your training progress - not long left now! You're putting me to shame... Any expectations on the time you'll do the marathon in?

I've only really started the running training this week  Up till then I've been doing 10mile cycling plus 1/2k swimming everyday - you'd think it was triathlon training, not marathon relay! Managed to get 100k+ this week between the swimming, cycling and running...

Now all I need to do is run 10k when the most I've done is 5...

Ideally just under 4 hours
Realistically 4 and a half - 5 hours

Good luck and thanks!

What numbers have you been allocated Ed and Wangi? It might make it easier for folk to spot you if we know.

Which part of the route are you running Wangi?

BTW Homer is running again this year, for fun  - number 126

For fun  With all this training my main discovery is how boring running is!

Don't know the number yet, will find out on Friday. I'm on the "Cock and Pans" leg. That's 5.8 miles from Musselburgh to Port Seton.

Running is super duper dull, yes, I agree. I am selecting my iPod Marathon tracks as we speak. Any good running songs?

Long Distance Runaround - Yes

You can run your marathon, collect your medal, have a shower and this track won't even be half way through.

Sorted.
