Moaning auld trout from Porty downs the RAF

Post by wangi » 10 Aug 2012, 21:51

A moaning auld trout(*) from Porty has put a big downer on the Tattoo, as the nightly four Typooon flypast at 9pm is reduced to one. Booo. Get over yourself.

http://www.scotsman.com/news/scottish-n ... -1-2461412
RAF pilots have been forced to cut back a deafening daily fly-past after Edinburgh residents thought they were being bombed.

But the thunderous noise generated by the two Typhoons and two Tornados flying in diamond formation has caused panic.

RAF chiefs and Tattoo organisers have apologised and agreed to restrict the flypast to just one jet from now on.

The jets – based at RAF Leuchars and RAF Lossiemouth – roar in from the sea over Portobello and across the east of the city before screeching over the castle at 350mph.
Four jet fighters with afterburners blazing have been screaming over the rooftops of Edinburgh at 9pm every night to mark the start of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

...

One Portobello resident, who asked not to be named, said it sounded like “something terrible was going to happen”.

He said: “The noise was deafening. Paintings hanging on the wall were shaking, the floor was vibrating – I thought a plane was actually going to ditch in the sea.

“It sounded like something terrible was going to happen – not for a minute did I think it would be for the Tattoo.”

He added: “Surely the organisers would have the sense to properly announce something like this, especially with the Olympics terror alerts?”

...
* I don't know if they are old; or a fish. But they are too feart to put a name to their moans.

Of course the commenter’s on the Evening News are a special breed, but the Moaning Brigade of Portobello certainly do our rep no favours...
Thomas the Tank wrote:Why does it come as no surprise that this story comes from a few self-indulgent, hysterical idiots in Portobello? Particularly in Portobello'. Nice one, Brian @#3, btw!
Reuldubh wrote:Unbelievable. If anything shows the utter stupidity of many of the Scottish public it's this sort of thing although given the activities of the Portobelllo Against Everything brigade I'd expect nothing else. The aircraft thundered over my house too and it was great to see and hear..
Doctor Wu wrote:The four aircraft fly (flew) directly over my house and it was a great sight and my Picaso above the mantle never 'shook' once ..... This will be the same Portobello buffoon that is no doubt a member of the ban the new school brigade and lets stifle the education potential of our young... Idiot!!
Rugal wrote:Can't we sell off Porty, Leith and most of the North coast(apart from Cramond). We'd be a happier, richer, prettier and more tolerant city. We're giving Fife a billion quid bridge surely they could take over the moaners too. Who phones up to complain about jets flying over their house? I suspect a person who's got something to hide. No wonder he didn't give his name.
Aristotle wrote:Portobello certainly seems to have more than its fair share of nutters. Hope that no car backfires near this person or else they will need an urgent change of underwear. These planes fly over my house and have not caused any damage or 'panic'. Some people really need to get a grip on real life.

Ha,ha,ha! You'd think after the first nanosecond on the first night when there was no explosion, they might guess they weren't being bombed! Surely more than one person must have complained though for them to pare it back. I was quite enjoying it too

It could have been just one... The RAF would have bowed to their wishes once the MoD realised the importance of their skills... Recruited to bring down the Syrian regime by letter writing campaign!

I don't even like telling folk I live in Porty these days as it is an affront!!!

The amount of moaners here is quite staggering - they really do try and strangle the life out this community.

I saw them flying over the Forth, 4 in formation.
Quite impressive
Can't say I have been startled in any way, I wouldn't describe it as deafening either

I'm wondering why the complainant didn't mention the sound of the fireworks.

So a new group? Portobello Ears Stop Tornados

Well as not heard the apparent incredible noise I popped out on the balcony to listen . Two planes went over. Yes a bit noisy but nothing shuddered or juddered, perhaps our building is more solid . Went back in and asked Derek , did u hear them . Not a thing . Get a life for what 21 nights a year !

Well that was 2 jets tonight, watched them fly over from East Lothian direction, over the sea bathers and assorted folks on the Prom
The holiday jet that went over a few minutes later seemed noisier... just saying

I normally hate military displays, but watching the jets go over really is stunning. And no, nothing in the flat has wobbled even slightly.

I'm glad that the jets were reduced to 1. There was far too much noise and it costs a lot. It's also best not to glorify the military.

Since we are getting reduced service for now, can we have a full squadron on the last day?

Afterburners on, reach the castle then pull up and aim for the sky. would be good to see.

Why's that then?Glorifying war and glorifying military are two separate things.

Didn't see any tonight but on the plus side saw a few bats, I was getting worried that the wet spring had reduced the numbers

But why not?I've never served, but what these guys and girls do is not just about war. They help out in disaster areas, they're just people doing a job and doing as they're told, with the added issue of maybe dying doing it.

How about appreciating physics, chemistry and (partly) British Engineering.

And to add to what Franck says...

War is political, don't blame the Armed forces for the wars we fight.

The Men and Women of the Military should be praised for doing a difficult and dangerous Job. Some of them are not even allowed to have a drink in a pub, or get married, yet we a more than willing to send them off to far away places from which they may not return.

Remember they do this job, so we don't have to.
