I nominate Mr. Arthur Harris a man who has lived and served the people of portobello since the 1950's and a man who is loved and respected by everybody who knows him. He recently has sold a bit of land in Bellfield Lane next to the garage/car repair business that he has ran along with is son Allan for well over 60 years. He sold it to two very nice people who are both surveyors or architects but more importantly than have a young daughter with special needs as she suffers from cerebral palsy. They needed land to build a special Ouse one that would be designed and customised to accommodate all the needs of their daughter. If you've not had time to go and have a look yet please do take the time because this house will win awards and does them both (the parents) great credit as it is obviously built with love and great thought to their daughters every need for ow and for the future. I nominate Arthur Harris because he didn't need the money for this land as this is not what motivates a man like Arthur Harris, it is his humanity and his kind and caring concern for people that lead to this land becoming available for this newly built house. On top of all this I think you could ask any number of people if they know Arthur Harris and I think they would say yes and more importantly they would say "yes what a nice man".

I strongly nominate Arthur Harris who has served the people of portobello faithfully, loyally and with a smile for over 60 years.

What a lovely post Colin. Mr Harris is indeed a credit to our community and I would certainly be one of those who would say "what a nice man". He's got my vote.

Some nominations in via email:
I would like to nominate as Porty person of the Year, Heather Morrison, librarian at Porty Library. When she runs her rhyme times Wed morning session for toddlers and parents at the library, there are literally queues down the street . She has given so much in her work and makes the library a happy and welcoming place and has also welcomed, and showed sympathy and understanding to the young Romanian children that have frequented the library over recent years
I would like to nominate Mr Adrian Laird Craig from Milton Road. He works full time, however in his free time, mostly at the weekends, you will find him picking up litter on our beach for hours . He is always with his dog, a Jack Russell, called Pickle.
I'd like to nominate Kieran Gaffney for Portobello Person of the Year. Kieran has worked tirelessness, and without seeking any pay or recognition, on moving forward the design on the new Portobello Toddler Hut

I second the vote for Heather Morrison (Neal) of Portobello library. Heather has a smile for everyone she meets and has given her energy and time to many charity and community causes for many, many years without drawing attention to this work.
