The roll call of 'the best storytellers available' would eventually expand to take in a very large number of famous names. During the run of the programme, a massive 25 years and 3,500 episodes, 400 presenters read 650 stories. The cast list included:

They seemed to be always reading Stig of the Dump. I hated that.

I think I remember Paul McCatney doing one that was quite good.

Rick Mayal doing George's Marvelous medicine was brilliant - see it on some of these 100 greatest countdown shows now and again and still as funny as I remember it.

What's wrong with Benny Hill?? He wrote some brilliant lyrics and sketches and would've been a great storyteller.

It should be revived with Boris Johnston reading. That would be fun.

I s anyone other than me totally gobsmacked by the success of "Bing Hitler" Aka as Craig Ferguson in the USA? I thought he was a talentless git before he went there. And hasn't chganged
