TV series you WANT to see repeated...

Post by bearcub » 15 Oct 2005, 00:25

Which series, or one-off shows, would you LIKE to see repeated - and no, 'Only Fools and Horses' and 'Porridge' are not allowed  . Start you off with:

'Takin' over the Asylum' - great early 90's(?) drama series set in a Glasgow psychiatric hospital about a radio station (how topical  ) starring a young Ken Stott, always wished it would be given a repeat showing.

Also, The Lakes - only because I faithfully watched every episode until......I missed the last one  and have never seen the end.

1. This kids tv drama series I remember - must be from the seventies - about a fictional land at war with another land, who are building a big gun to destroy them. The heroes were children and the series ended with them sabotaging this gun (which was a sort of strange Victorian cannon which would unleash a sort of frozen attack) so that it self-destructed - freezing the people in the firing chamber. Odd, but it has always stuck in my memory - frozen in time, as it were.

2. Secret Army. Cos I know what WW2 is now.

Also Threads, Tenko, Colditz, Triffids, The Survivors and Tales Of The Unexpected. Cos I'm old enough to watch them now and not get nightmares.

Muuuuuuummmmyyyy!!!!!!

Triffids was great, also remember a series called 'The Tripods' - think it finished before the story was ended though :(

"Tutti Frutti", I never watched it and only became aware of it after the series finished. As far as I know it has never been repeated.

1. Northern Exposure. Although I have them all on tape, so don't really need to see the repeats. But it is an absolute classic. Still love it.

2. I'll Fly Away; no one has ever heard of this, let alone watched it, but it was by the same makers of Northern Exposure. It was set in the deep South of America where racism was rife. Think it might have been set in the 50's?

3. The Ferguson Theory; with Craig Ferguson. Used to think it was hilarious, and I would like to see it to see if I still find it as funny.

4. Press Gang; but you can buy these on DVD now. Hooray! :D

OH, and I would agree about The Lakes. It was great. Really fancied the main guy in it, John Simm!

Was that the comedy with that guy in it, you know the one who was the funeral in Four Weddings and a Funeral - what was his name again???

If it was, I loved that too and no-one else seems to remember it.
He used to do amazing things with pints of beer.

I'd love to see a sitcom starring Molly Sugden, called "Come Back Mrs Noah". She starred as a cleaning lady who got sent into space when her bucket accidentally set off the firing procedure. It was AWFUL, but no-one ever believes that it even exists.

OR

The pilot episode of "It Sticks Out Half a Mile". This was a radio show that was supposed to reunite the cast of Dad's Army. Unfortunately, Arthur Lowe died after the pilot episode was recorded and it was never broadcast (though I have heard clips). (They rewrote the scripts, trying to disguise the fact that the central character was missing, but it didn't really work. The show was cancelled after one series.)
I don't believe in Beatles.

Yes it was - as Tom Chance! I'm glad someone else can remember it - I was starting to think I was imagining it. I seem to remember he had an odd shouty way of speaking, but my memory is a bit hazy.

A trip to ebay I think.

Well, I saw 'I'll Fly Away' and will second that vote.

Also Children of the Stones; Knock 3 Times (about a kind of evil imp who lived in a pumpkin - I hope it exists because I fear I may have dreamt it) and A Very Peculiar Practice (I think it was called, it was set in a uni and always had a couple of nuns up to nogood in the background)

And from home ... Seven Little Australians ... the Oz tearjerker to match the Railway Children

This Life which was hidden on BBC2 I think, and Clocking In which was about women who worked in a factory. Crocodile Shoes, When the Boat Comes in, just for the theme tune.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

I loved that show. It contains one of my favourite lines of all time; delivered to Thomson from Coltrane.

If you mean the one about women in a factory it's called Making It by Debbie Horsfield - I think it was on in the late 1980s. The other one is Clocking Off by Paul Abbott which was more recent.

Got a feeling some of that was filmed in my hometown... Royston Vasey. I thought it was early 90s.

one of my very favourite programmes. It's been repeated a few times on obscure cable channels during the day but I'd love the whole lot to be shown again at a sensible time

Surely not... Eldorado???

Marcus Tandy from said programme once made a nasty sign at me - the one where you make a circle with your thumb and forefinger and shake it backwards and forwards. "At least I wasn't in Eldorado," I mouthed back at him.

I did watch it's last few weeks, mainly as an avoidance strategy as I was meant to be studying, but I couldn't bear to watch it again
