I don''t get it. I only ever felt any affection for Clementine, one of the seemingly endless kittens emanating from dcCairns abode.

But if you are not a cat person then you're not.........but you are in the company of Napoleon, Stalin and Hitler who all detested moggies.

Feel free to add PoP and Porty to that list. Do we keep good company or what!

I have long associated cats with an indication of a friendly neighbourhood. Cats lure you to their front doors, invite you in to scritch their heads and socialise, they are outerageously hedonistic, know that when the sun shines it is time to lie on your back and bask, and always know where the best food is.
What's to hate?

I don't hate cats - I just cannot be bothered with them.

That's even worse than hating them!! Or it's just a pose and you are [rightly] afraid, very afraid, of them!!!

PoP until I got a cat I wouldn't have been bothered about them much either. I had a dog when I was a child (or at least did have until I came home from school one day to find that my mum had given the dog away

) and my Grandfather kept working sheepdogs on his croft so if I had any preference it would have been for our canine friends.
Much later, Homer and I moved into our first flat together to find that the previous owner had moved out, but left his cat behind. That's when we discovered how smart, entertaining and full of character cats are.

If you live in a tenement, you need to insist that at least one of your neighbours has a cat. And invite it in from time to time, and then kick it back out again.
Then you can be sure that you are free of mice!

I think Porty is a closet cat lover...you only have to look at his avatar. And he was very accurate in identifying Taz (who resides elsewhere in Portobello), one of Clemmie's great-grandsons, as being a relative of hers. He obviously has a feel for the felines.
My advice to you is not to fight it, give in to your feline-loving tendencies. I might even have a spare kitten or two for you when you have come out.

We also had a dog when we were kids and I have very fond memories. It makes me feel a little guilty when my kids ask for a pet but I know who would end up doing all the work!
As part of the same pet/care discussions, I recently let them each have a Tamagochi (electronic pet) on the basis that if they cannot look after a simulated animal properly, how could they possibly care for a real pet. The experiment goes on and is proving a brilliant way to get some great fun discussions on the table!

Funny you should mention Tamagotchi - I wrote a small game called XTamago, which is a tamagotchi simulator - and the animal inside is a cat!!
None of you will be able to run it unless you're using Linux, though.
http://www.edinburgh-east-ssp.org/xtamago/
There is a little sub-game inside the game where tamago puts on a little tin hat and plays space invaders, but the aliens are little Pokemon.
Chester was the model and inspiration for Xtamago.

It's happened to me before. These days when I do a mummy of a post and realise, I always copy it to a text file before previewing and posting.

I didnt say I hated cats, I didnt even say I disliked them. However, if you are serious about a dislike for Cats being an irrevocable breach ofour relationship, then I am prepared to work on a hatred thing. What have you done for me lately?

Given the topic name, could Porty and Dadaist solve the issue as a couple of cats would? A bit of posturing, some loud howling, a couple of tentative rushes, a lot of loose fur flying and finally an uneasy truce called?
... oh, hang on ...

Good photo Catz - Maybe I should re-think my strategy on cats. Can they carry mugs of hot tea from the kitchen?

Yes...but it burns them out quicker.
They can do everything you want them to, just show them this picture now and again...and they wont talk back

There is a beautiful big grey tom cat roaming round our village and it has been seen tampering with my neighbours little grey tabby who has NOT been neutered God only knows why not

Anyway she will no doubt be having beautiful little grey kittens in the not too distant future.
Did I read somewhere on here that kittens were hard to come by in Edinburgh ??? you should live down here ,with two farms just down the road we are going to be overrun soon.
If anyone is desperate for a kitten let me know and I'll see what I can do and can even deliver but only at weekend's and I drink Bacardi and diet coke Thanks

Stick to what you know then you'll never become unstuck

I was brought up with cats, and I always planned to get cats when I got my own place which I did.
Cats are far better than dogs.
