Hello. Haven't posted for some time, but thought you might like to see what we had to put up with in Ottawa this winter. To put things into perspective; the person in the first image is my son and he is almost 6 feet tall; the vehicle is a Dodge Caravan, but the snow makes it look like a Mini. http:...

Genesis - Foxtrot

Haven't listened to this album in ages. Can-Utility and the Coastliners is one under-appreciated song.

Well, I can give you a first hand account... I was back home on holiday with my wife and kids in 2003 and 2005 and we did a few good touristy things. Arthur's Seat. Incredible place in the center of the city. A climb to the top gives fantastic panoramic views. The comment about Ocean Terminal is ban...

I'm not fond of Texan bars as you often get poked by stetsons, tramped on by pointy boots and the music is not to my taste

Incumbent Liberals have been in office for over 12 years. Some folk feel that it is time for a change. All of the parties are in full campaign mode. Promising everything from incom tax cuts to GST cuts. CatzVP is right, the Liberals have been embroiled in a few money scandals. But, the economy is ve...

Good to hear from you Colin :D Been a while... I was actually in Portobello this summer on holiday with my family. My aunt has a caravan at Seton Sands that we use. The bus ride from there along the coast into Edinburgh is simply wonderful. Stopped in Portie a few times to visit relatives and walk ...

One more time.

Files have been converted to .WMV format and should be viewable with the standard Windows Media Player.

Quality is not as good, but file sizes are much smaller.

I have uploaded one of the original MPEG files:

PortobelloHighSt-1979.mpg (8Mb)

Due to the MPEG format, it may appear rather grainy with lines with some versions of media players.

Old 8mm clips of Portobello

Hi all. My father has a box of old 8mm films taken mainly during the early 60s and 70s. Many old weddings, christenings and birthdays and holidays back in Edinburgh. I figured that I would surprise my family and transfer them to DVD. Turned out not bad and they were definitely surprised as they had ...

Re: Before we forget

There is definitely something different about today's kids. If not for modern medicine, many of them would be in serious trouble. My kids are 10 and 12 and for most of their years in school, they have been in classes where certain foods have been banned for lunch. Many kids are allergic to peanuts, ...

What can you say, MP3s are fun, easy to get and very convenient. The horse is out of the barn and he is very fast and he likes the room. There is no way that he's going back in. Most of the MP3s that I have downloaded are actually replacements for the tons of vinyl stored in boxes in my basement. I ...

Mr. Stanley

Kids don't know the fear of having a teacher like Mr. Stanley. If he were teaching today and using the same discipline methods, he would be locked for abuse.

Great site!

Hi all. I left Portobello in 1973 and moved to Canada with my family when I was 11. This site sure brings back some memories. Running down the Fishwives Causway, Saturday matinees at the George, the Baths, Figgate Park and the Prom. I lived on Mountcastle Crescent and went to St. John's. I had Sr. J...
