Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Scoop It took you a few days to come back with that reply. take a positive and use it as a negative, a commonly used trick in this subject. If you have additional support needs then a school facility and the teachers should be able to support you in your journey. Sports, arts, social and technical s...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Got 2nd year tracking report home tonight, youngest Tufty has achieved straight Excellents. Now he may be a bit of a clever clogs, but he needed the teachers to do it.
Yet again the staff at Porty have delivered exactly "what it said on the tin", even though it's badly bashed from over use.

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Thanks for posting little miss moffat. I've stopped reading posts that I know are just bile or nonsense. You'd think that folk would want to progress a new school for the future of portobello not securing turf for turds as PPAG have done.

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
All the biscuits, bread and eggs were used up by the time I got home today, 3 teenagers home from a damaged school yet again. The building is just past it's sell by date and I'm sick at the thought of the council tax money that is going to go on repairs when it should be closed already. I do want to...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Re change of catchment. Have you asked the shopkeepers on the High Street how they feel about that as an idea? I've just driven through Craigmillar with my daughter and we discussed going for lunch, she commented on the lack of shops compared to Portobello and it made us do a quick calculation. 1200...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
I don't have to, there is already a brilliant plan, model and design, passed for build, and I'm sorry but there was no perspective, an omission I cannot miss after having it drummed in. Idea and design totally different parts of the process. Really I wish CEC had the money to build such a wonderful ...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Sorry, I know I shouldn't but having spent a very long time in drawing offices, I can't help myself. Drawings really really poor, a reflection perhaps of the idea, not the design as such, a wonderful thought given that brief, but in this case where finance is a factor, it's like asking Easy Jet to g...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Having been on holiday to Amsterdam my husband has come up with a plan. No land, reclaim some, build out at sea. But then I think he may have been enjoying some of the available refreshments in Amsterdam, he's not thinking straight. There is a slight issue of cost. Of course we would all want CEC to...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Scotland is about to change the exam system, the new curriculum for excellence has brought many good things and many unknowns. As yet the full details have not been released so there remains a large unknown. If any decant were to overlap the introduction of this new exam system, or even happen in th...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Thanks Marya, I had read the text above, and just wondered when the golf course changed the origional park, and it seems without full backing of locals, at that time did it's status change. Having had a house full of disappointed teenagers this week I would see the school built on stilts in the sea ...

Reading comments and suggestions for a new location, split, decant etc etc etc.
Is the golf course common good land? Can the council build it there?
I await the interesting come backs.

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Franck : The road that concerns me, as someone who has worked in road safety, is the path from Holyrood to Craigmillar. It enjoys mostly one way taffic as children do not walk towards Craigmillar in the morning. I have walked to work in Craigmillar, along it into the Holyrood kids, there is only pav...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
The route from the parsons green catchment to castlebrae would take the children along Duddingston rd West, a busy road already congested with High school kids walking towards Holyrood, it's a narrow path and franck is suggesting two way taffic of teenage pedestrians in rush hour. I gave up on my ch...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
Craigmillar is a none starter. If you were really going to consider it then you would have to consider any other site within a five mile radius. There's a space behind the station, not any further out of the catchment, but is that not obviously daft. It's a reaction to suggest it, there are so many ...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG win legal appeal
I'm with you Marya. I feel let down by a system that is supposed to protect the public. There is saving green space and saving a view/ house prices. I'll never believe it was about green park land after suggestions of using other parks. I hope there is an alternative plan, not Big W or decant, but I...

Well said sceptic. I agree we all have the right to fight for what we believe in but there comes a time when most good citizens realise their desires have to be put aside for the greater good. Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG Judicial Review
Our oldest is about to start highers. The hall where the exams will be held is draughty, cold and dim. If it's windy or wet the background distractions will be too much for some of the pupils. This is a concern from a pupil. It is not a level playing field, it is not equality. The government have gu...

Actually it would be true to say every child over the age of nine in the Portobello catchment area is disadvantaged by PPAG.
Unless they plan to attend an out of catchment school.

Epykat. Not every day. My three children go there and have each told me of disrupted lessons due to failures in technology. You may well be right Bob, however I think it is fair to say that people who have been brought up here, generally have a different attitude to the park than people who haven't. There were parks where I grew up. I love the smell of cut grass, jumpers for goal posts and picnics. It's a shame that the...
